The Soil & Water Conservation District’s (SWCD) role as a county agency is to provide leadership and assistance in the proper use and management of soil, water and related natural resources in Pike County.

The District also makes available public information about soil, water and related natural resource conservation; identify and prioritize local soil and water resource concerns; and connect land users to resources of education, technical and financial assistance to implement conservation practices and technologies.

Programs & Services

Our programs and services are geared towards helping landowners improve their natural resources through implementation of soil and water conservation practices. The office staff includes two technicians, one who specializes in soil health and land conservation and another who specializes in invasive plants and species. Technicians are available during office hours to offer in-house assistance or make field visits to determine the best course of action to correct potential soil erosion, invasive management and other related detriments to soil and water conservation.

At times, cost share programs will be available to landowners and producers wanting to improve their soil health and water quality. These cost share programs stem from the District being awarded various grant funding and could take place at any given time depending on funding availability and grant guidelines. Practices included in these programs could include: no-till planting, cover crops, grid sampling, pollinator habitat establishment, rain barrels and other agricultural and urban conservation practices. Please contact the office or watch our Facebook page and quarterly newsletter for the announcement of such programs.
